Polaris snub

I can’t believe Leonard Cohen was nominated for the Polaris Prize this year and I wasn’t. That guy is more than twice my age. And my lyrics are way better. Allow me to demonstrate:

I fought in the old revolution
on the side of the ghost and the King.
Of course I was very young
and I thought that we were winning;
I can’t pretend I still feel very much like singing
as they carry the bodies away.

Leonard Cohen, from the song The Old Revolution

Talk about a downer. This is more like it:

Kids fall off bikes
and I laugh—is that so bad?

Maybe Smith, from the song Bloopers

I’m basically the Jay-Z of nerdy indie pop.

Why are you so funny? Come to Ottawa!
Oh ya, you are!
I love the power I wield.

@Putzy, your power-wielding abilities are second only to those of our Governor General. Will she be at the show? Will I get to meet her?!

eek! i am SO happy that you are coming to winnipeg! i haven’t seen you play since i headed out west to catch cuff the duke at the regina folk festival a few years back. i fell head over heels for your stuff and scooped up all your cds. it’ll be nice to see you play here…very excited right now! take care and enjoy the tour :)

@kelly, thanks! I’m looking forward to returning to Winnipeg!

Hey Colin, I just wanted to drop you a line of appreciation. I expected awesome at the Winnipeg show that you played and I got awesome times 100!! I didn’t expect you guys to rock my socks off that hard! I loved every minute of it…now I remember why I was so drawn to you at the Regina Folk Festival a few years back. Whether you are backed by a band or just by yourself I think you’ve got great talent. I know the crowd was somewhat, for lack of a better word, lame…hold on…I do have a better word: intimate…that sounds much better! But that seems to be a running trend in the city on Friday and Saturday nights in the summer: a lot of people head off to the lake or cabin. I’m even heading out east for two weeks starting tomorrow so I’m happy you came around when you did. Another band that I saw last weekend only played to myself, two of my friends and the bar staff! I myself flew solo last night ‘cause everyone seemed to be out of town and I’m extremely happy I did. Sometimes you just need to venture out on your own plus there was no way I wanted to go another three years without seeing you play! You left another great impression. Can you tell I’m still in awe the morning after?! Thanks for being so high energy even though the crowd was not there to reciprocate it back. The new album is great. I’ve been listening to it on repeat this morning as I do laundry and pack. Keep up the excellent work — it’s the teacher in me, even in the summer I can’t get away from it! Don’t be a stranger…hope to see you again soon whether I need to go on a mini road trip or you come back to your neighboring province. Take care, I wish you all the best, and have a great summer :)
